FRIENDSHIP

When life gets too usual, have a barbecue!

Yesterday, Nate's friends had a BBQ for all of the TE/Holt interns. I invited Katie and Michelle too. Nate's sis Lindsay and her BF Adam came too. It was the most fun party I've been too in forever! It was a really beautiful day to be outside and hanging out with close friends. There was tons of hotdogs and burgers and some AWESOME homemade potato salad.

I love being with Katie and Michelle, we just laugh most of the time and it's all smiles. I also love the "heart-to-hearts" that can only happen between friends. We trust eachother with everything. I don't see my girls as much as I used too, so the times we get together are definitely precious to me. They're like family.

It was fun hanging out with my soon-to-be-sis, Lindsay. She's one cool girl. She's pretty goofy, like me.

I'd say there was close to 70 people at this party. Yeah dude.

Everyone gathered around the campfire when it got dark. Man I love that smell, when the campfire smoke gets in your clothes and hair. I love Nathan too:)

I know my friends are genuine friends when they've heard the same problem or story from me over and over, and they always listen like it's the first time.

I made a new friend named Maggie. As you can see, we hit it off right away. Little did I know, she's friends with anyone who's holding her green football. I was pretty upset when I found out that she was just using me to throw it for her.

Good times, good times.

On our way home, me and Katie stopped by 7-Eleven, and the guy working there was hilarious. He rambled on for 10 minutes about how mad he was about the Slurpee situation..."Ofcourse we always have Coke, that's our staple. It's in the contract. I tell them, we should always have Cherry Coke, because you know, that's our biggest seller! But no, they have to have this stupid 'flavor of the week' which no one even likes. I mean, right now it's Blueberry Rasberry, and it's not even red!!! What's up with that? Oh, and the mystery flavor! Who would by a flavor when they don't even know what it is???"

Yeah sure guy, like we care...we just slowly edged out of the store laughing, and he kept talking to himself after we left.

Scary Dream

I had a scary dream a few days ago. I was in my parents' house alone and there was a nasty storm outside that I was watching through the window. I saw a tornado quickly approaching the house so I threw myself down the basement steps and the tornado ripped through our house.

After it passed, I walked upstairs to see nothing left of our home. I walked around the neighborhood to see all the damage and talked to some neighbors. The sky was actually pretty, and there was that sense of calm after a storm. I saw this girl from my high school and told her that my house was destroyed. Then she said, "No it's not!" I said, "I was in the basement when the tornado hit it!" She told me to go and look. So I went and it was the only house on the block still standing. COOL!

Then I woke up.

SPAM Can Be Funny

I get at least 40 SPAMS a day in my e-mail! The subject line to one of them today made me laugh out loud:

"Never eat more than you can lift."

What a great life lesson...

A very Bizarre Happening

So, this guy at Panera just went over to the coffee dispensers and dispensed hot coffee over a couple of napkins, dripping coffee all over the floor, then he ventured back to his table and wiped it down with his wet coffee napkins! What the heck is that all about? Is coffee a good household cleaner? Does it have antibacterial properties? I don't think so.

I'm listening to the self-titled album by Bob Dylan. Good stuff.

I started reading On the Road by Jack Kerouac last night. I read it my freshman year of college and decided it was time to read it again. I love it! Good book.

I think I just burnt my tongue on my Hazelnut coffee. It'll probably feel weird when I eat later.

On my mind lately

James 1:1-1:8
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings.

Trials and Temptations
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

(emphasis mine)

I cut my deck to the queen of spades, but the cards were all the same.

I've always wanted a Moosejaw hoodie. Yesterday they were 50% off. CRAZY! I got a gray one with orange and blue lettering. Cool. Love hoodies:)

I'm in Panera Bread right now using their free internet. Fun. I love coming here lately to study and do stuff on the computer. It's cozy and bright and there's coffee and food. Nice.

I'm listening to Dire Wolf by Grateful Dead. Good song, not quite sure if the song has any deep meaning, but I do know this:

From The Werelist:

"Canis Dirus, or the Dire Wolf, was a species of wolf that existed in the Pleistocene epoch (ice age) some 13,000 + years ago. Very closely related to the modern gray or timber wolf, the dire wolf was only slightly larger (perhaps around 5 1/2 - 6 feet in overall length and average of 130 lbs) with stockier legs, a smaller brain, and larger teeth. These features lead researchers to believe that the dire wolf was more like the modern day hyena in it's behavior."

...and my favorite part of their description:

"And just to clear up a few misconceptions, the dire wolf was not overly large, was not a superior predator, and did not have snaggle fangs."

And I always thought it had snaggle fangs!

Begging

This is Joey begging me to play with her. Notice her favorite toy, a peacock feather. She likes to lay next to it and stare at me. I usually give in. She's just too cute!

Classy Puppies

Usually I think that dogs wearing clothes are ridiculous, but these puppies are just the cutest!

"May You Savor Each Word Like a Raspberry"

I've been listening to the music of Judee Sill for the past couple weeks. I was listening to a song by the Hollies on the Elizabethtown Soundtrack, and later found out that it was originally a Judee Sill song. Her story is very interesting, I love the sound of her voice, her music is unique, and her lyrics are thoughtful. She released only a few albums; the first one in 1971. She died at age 35 in '79.

Go to the Judee Sill Main Page to read about different accounts of her life. There is also a sweet site with free MP3's of some demos and unreleased concert recordings. Cool. My favorite song is Lady-O. I like the story she shares on how this song came to be. I also like Crayon Angels (you can hear it at Myspace...see below).

UPDATE:

So, I just found out like two minutes ago that someone set up a Myspace account for Judee. It has some cool pictures and you can listen to her music. Check it out here.

Meijer

You know those Meijer commercials with the slogan "Lower prices, Higher standards" ......well, it should be, "Same prices, Lower standards." Seriously, they rarely have decent produce and cannot compete with the local food markets. The carrots are usually bendy, the cauliflower starts going brown the first day you buy it, and I end up throwing away half of my head of lettuce.

For a change, yesterday I went to my favorite health food/vitamin store (Foods For Living), and bought my supplies for salads. It was all organic and it was the freshest produce I've eaten in a LONG time. The cauliflower is amazing! The carrots are crunchy and full of flavor. I've always liked broccoli, but this was the first time that I loved it! It tastes like I just picked it straight off the plant in my backyard (if I had a broccoli plant in my backyard).

Joey in a Tunnel

I bought Elfie and Joey a kitty play tunnel about a month ago. I take it out once in awhile for them to play in it, but they've never slept in it until tonight! Elfie is usually more interested in the tunnel than Joey is, but tonight Joey took a nap inside the tunnel for about an hour. She was so precious...

Salads

I love homemade salads that I make myself. My salads usually consist of lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, and green pepper. I also add a little salad dressing, cheese, and some bacon bits (the real bacon kind). I love for most of the salad to be the veggies, and I love cutting them up very small. DELICIOUS!!! I love how colorful the salad looks before I add the toppings and mix it all up. It's like a work of art. Vegetables are so vibrant in color, and they're completely natural! God make a work of art when he made vegetables! So, here are some photos of my salad masterpiece.

MacGyver

Yesterday, me and Nate watched the Superbowl at his friends' house. My friend Katie came too. It was fun, my favorite commercial was the Mastercard one with MacGyver. Go here and scroll to bottom to find it and watch it.

I gave myself a makeover during half-time.

You like?

So today, I made eggs for lunch. I pulled out my cheese grater to make some shredded cheese for my eggs. I didn't set it on the counter right and it started to fall, so I quickly grabbed it to save my kitty from getting hit over the head. I ended up grating my pinky finger. OUCH! Hopefully the skin didn't end up on my eggs.

Bogie

I was looking through my pictures and found this one of Bogie, one of my mom's cats. He is very territorial so he sometimes pees in the house. He can be a real brat and talks way too much. But how can you not love his cute little pudgy face. He's quite a lush for any kind of attention:)

Dard's Wedding

Me and Nathan went to his friend's wedding this weekend in Fisher, Indiana. His name is Matt Derado and Nate and his friends call him Dard. The Bride's name is Jennifer but everyone calls her Jenna. We had an awesome time this weekend and we got to stay in a brand new hotel. It was very nice. It was sort of like a mini vacation. Here's a couple pictures:

Head of the Class

The weather was pretty nasty this morning driving in the snow. I used my 4 wheel drive though and it was great. I was running late because I turned off my alarm like three times as usual. So, I walked into class only 2 minutes late and my teacher hadn't started class yet. He's also my advisor so I know him pretty well.

Anyway, when I walked in he said to me, with a smirk on his face, "Four wheel drive didn't help with this morning?" Then I said, "Oh, it did." with a smile on my face. Then ofcourse I realize he was probably teasing me because I was late, and I just said something back that was not funny at all! I should have said, "Yeah, my alarm clock didn't help either." Which would have been slightly funny and corny and appropriate for class.

It was one of those moments where you think of something funny to come back with just a few seconds too late. I'm usually quick to answer anything, so it's hard for me to say quick funny things unless I'm having a good night.

I'm out!!!!!!!!!

sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand

I started a list last week of movies that I want to see. Some are new and some are old and in between. Pretty random. Last night I watched Cool Hand Luke starring Paul Newman. It was a great movie. Lot's of good lines and really neat moments. Just a good feeling kind of movie with a good looking actor;)

It was neat to see a younger Dennis Hopper and George Kennedy, who's been in a million films including the Naked Gun movies. I love movies that were made back then (this one was 1967).

Recurring Dream With a Twist

Last night I had a recurring dream where I'm supposed to be meeting my friends Katie, Michelle, and Stephanie at an amusement park. It's really dark outside and it's a pretty creepy park on the outskirts. So, I get there, and I buy a ticket and there's all these outdoor hallway tent thingys that I'm walking down to get to the park entrance. Then there's this open field and I can see the park in the distance a few hundred feet away. I see it all lit up with ferris wheels and such. I start walking towards the fence entrance and something stops me. The first time I had this dream I don't remember what it was that stopped me. But this time it was Carmelo Anthony. We ended up french kissing and then I woke up.

Too bad it wasn't Al Anagonye or Ben Wallace!

Why in the world did I dream this? I don't even like Carmelo. I think he was in there because last night I went out with my friends, and Katie said that Carmelo's hair is longer now and he used to be cuter. This is what dreammoods.com has to say about the amusement park.

To see or be in an amusement park in your dream, indicates that you need to set some time for leisure and more enjoyment in your life. Consider how everything in the park is an expression of some aspect of yourself. Alternatively, you may be too easily distracted lately.

Hmmm...I think I'm too distracted by videos games lately:)

Ciao ciao!

it's late and i'm happy

hey ya'll! i just got home with nathan. we hung out with his friends tonight. first we went to the Riv and then to Jeremy's house to play poker. Ofcourse, I didn't play poker because I'm very inexperienced and although I've learned a few times, I always forget the jist of it.

He has very nice friends. Most of them are from Cheboygan. Since I didn't play poker (I'm going to have nate give me lessons) I mostly just talked and watched...but then I discovered that they have a gamecube, and they have ZELDA!!! So ofcourse I quickly started playing that and continued until we left.

I'm glad that nathan met such nice people in his classes and that they are good friends. I really miss the fact that most of my friends don't live very close anymore. It was always fun to be able to get 10 people together on the spur of the moment just to watch blind date and eat Gumby's in undergrad. I'm hanging out with my friends tomorrow (or I guess today).

My friend Stephanie is moving to Reno, Nevada on the 31st! She just accepted a job out there; so no more E.L. for Steph:(

crazy...

I found a new internet game that I'm addicted to. It's called Cowmaze. There is also a Cowmaze 2. I already beat the first one; it has 42 levels. It's all in some language I don't know, but it's easy to figure out how to play. Just place the arrows on the gameboard with your mouse to guide the grey cow to the trophy! It's a great time waster.

i'm out! peace! goodnight.

Dream Invasion

I had a crazy dream last night...I was working at some sort of grocery store that looks similar to Busch's Valueland in Saline. I was working with Nate Cummings (a friend from Hish School) and a bunch of other people. Then all of a sudden we were all being led out of the store against our will and we ended up at this huge lake with a dock and there was this huge flying ship hovering over the dock and people were being lined up on the dock and the beamed up into the ship in groups. My friend Nate and me got beamed up together, but when we got into the ship, the people in charge of the ship told me there wasn't enough room for me and they were escorting me back out. I looked at Nate and felt so bad that he was taken. They were putting everyone in their own cells with bars on them. Then the next day at work, Nate was there again, but he seemed really uneasy and told me that they were taking him back on the ship again at night but it was a secret. Somebody asked him if he wanted to hang out that evening, and he looked at me really scared-like, because he didn't want anyone to know. That's about it... It really creeped me out. It was very scary and it kind of reminded me of the show Invasion. The peple on the plane seemed different than regular humans even though they looked the same.

Salad Spinner

I bought a new salad spinner at Williams Sonoma today. It works really well.
